Had come across this book in a small bookstore in Monganshan Road in Shanghai; I was mesmerized from the beginning. Considering myself an Afrophile and in particular anything related to indigenous cultures, I wondered how I had missed this tribe or this book by consequence. Tribal Decoration from Africa by Hans Silvester is a must read. The photos bring hope that originality for mankind still lurchs somewhere deep in Africa, Papua New Guinea or South East Asia; not irremediably lost.
I have mixed here some of the photos from Birds of Paradise (I have yet to see them in PNG!) and Hans Silvester's photos. I have looked at the images again and again this weekend. Too powerful and truly beautiful.
