Here are some photos of details from the very rapid visit. The most salient fact (beyond the wonderful receptiveness and warmth of the people I met) was the progressiveness of the urban area: parks, clean spaces, wonderful air, people on bikes and skates all over. One of my favourite details (of which unfortunately and to my chagrin took NO pictures) was the “loose” and free-reign gardening. The "oppressiveness" of the manicured lawns gave way to beautiful overgrown greenery full of local shrubs, plants and other, including all sorts of edible produce.
My quick perusal through the downtown area with Peter, uncovered wonderful details, here are some of them: Sexual liberalism is the order of the day… even when relates to machines, here two chairs caught “in the act” in an empty lot..
And here two bikes doing same, just down the street…
Young kids everywhere, deciding to live “off the grid” – following Thoreau? Don’t know – but not seeming to cause any impact - sleeping in parks with their dogs… loved the style nonetheless..
Furry green buildings, testament to progressiveness? Or just casualty of lack of maintenance of overgrown bush?
A wind powered building….(? - TBC)
And the recycling effort even in art….
The urban landscape full of messages.. some with which I am in agreement, others not, nonetheless a voice.. (And following Stuart Mill valid...)
all packed in a surrealist view of the Portland skyline.
and its people...
These are tempting me. I am having my nomadic itch to relocate! But trying not to for some reason. Wow, we haven't talked in a while. -Soni in Petaluma
