Donha Raquel Trinidade - 7 husbands but not 7 children!
Daughter in all ways possible of the famous Afro-Brasilian poet, Solano Trinidade. Full of life, and colour has married 7 times, yet she did not have 7 children. On being questioned as to why, her response was: “ I like to have fun but I am not stupid!”.
The Girl with the Red Lollipop
No Rembrandt figure, yet the colours and roses in many ways a throwback to other times.
At the top
Have written about my friend/sister Ix many times. She visited for a few weeks in April and May. We reminisced on having met almost 11 years ago by the ocean in Madagascar. This is no ocean, but the top of Pedra Selada. She remains always a wonderful presence in my life. Thanks for the visit! (she took little Maua and now keeps her company in Brooklyn, NYC)
Not Made for Sleeping
“Innovative” yet macabre way ideated by the Brazilian Sao Paulo state bureaucracy (have not seen elsewhere) to keep homeless people from sleeping under bridges. Not sure it is working – behind the cement blocks you can see a mattress where a person jumped the fence to sleep!
Black Nude Angels Floating Away from Bar
In a small bar in the center of town, this graffiti, one of many adorns the external wall.
Feet on the Drums
Donha Trinidade’s “children” learning about batuca, and in particular playing for maracatu, a folkloric Afro-brasilian / Indigenous music mix.
