NY Times: On A Florist and Craftsmanship

Just wanted to post this quick note on NYT article on Emily Thompson, a Brooklyn based florist which apparently has taken the "floral world by storm" with her designs. I know not the lady but was completely charmed with her profession and this photo of Emily and her assistant Aviva, working on an arrangement. Striking photograph showing craftsmanship (or craftwomanship?), as masters of old.

The pictured evoked images a continent away on the care with which Japanese restauranteurs in Kyoto served my food, as if  each kernel of food mattered, and it does. I recently, while in line at the bank here in Sao Paulo, came upon a quote by Supreme Justice Roberts (not a fan) on the care that a lawyer or in this case a Supreme Court advocate must display: "as a mason - the ones who build great cathedrals.. meticulously carving gargoyles.. that when the cathedral was completed could not be seen...they were carving for the eye of God, the advocate who stands before the Supreme Court, also needs to infuse his craft with a higher purpose.."

Here is the NYT article on the florists:  http://www.nytimes.com/2011/03/31/fashion/31FLOWERPOWER.html?ref=fashion
